Dana Hall School seeks candidates for the position of Director of Counseling. The individual in this position will be accountable for:
Providing clinical supervision of the Upper and Middle School counselors
Providing long- and short-term evaluation and counseling to Upper School students, consulting to parents about their children, referring students for treatment outside of Dana Hall in coordination with their parents
Communicating and coordinating with the Health Center team, the Deans, the Directors of the Upper School and Middle School and other administrators to coordinate support for students with mental health issues.
Leading Counseling Team meetings (grades 9-12) and assigning cases to the Upper School counselors
Leading department meetings and creating systems as needed, such as a crisis response plan to deal with students in crisis, scheduling part-time counselors, managing the on-call schedule, expanding the school’s referral network
Serving on and coordinating an on-call system for mental health emergencies for weeknights/weekends and providing assistance and guidance to other counselors taking the lead in responding to a clinical emergency
Communicating with faculty/staff members related to concerns about students with mental health issues and the best ways to support them
Providing workshops and presentations to faculty/staff related to mental health issues and protocols
Serving on the Health and Wellness Committee, designing and implementing programming, as well as teaching Forum classes
Successful candidates will have substantial experience with school consultation or school counseling, as well as in the clinical treatment of adolescents and families. In addition, candidates must have experience and expertise in diagnosing and treating adolescents with mild to severe clinical problems including ADHD, depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. Candidates must also have experience performing self-harm and student safety evaluations, as well as supporting student hospitalizations. They should have demonstrable leadership and collaboration skills, a strong work ethic and an ability to effectively work and multi-task in an active school environment. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to work collaboratively and independently, as well as a keen interest in working with adolescent girls and their families. Candidates must possess a demonstrated understanding of current diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and the humility to pursue ongoing growth in this area.
Candidates must have a Master's degree in a related field, at least 3-5 years of administrative and clinical experience, and proficiency with Google Apps and Apple products. Work experience in a school environment is preferred; experience in a residential setting is a plus
This is a ten-month, full-time position reporting to the Directors of the Upper School and Middle School for student matters and the Assistant Head of School for operational oversight. It includes evening and weekend hours.
