Responsible for recruitment and evaluation of prospective students. Perform related public relations and event planning functions to aid in the overall mission of the Smith College Office of Admission.
Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
* Plan and coordinate approximately six to eight weeks of travel annually to recruit students and manage an assigned geographic territory determined by application and enrollment data. Visit high schools, attend college fairs, conduct workshops, and meet with alumnae. Initiate and maintain effective communication between Smith College and college counselors from a diverse range of high schools. Manage correspondence and conversations with students, parents, counselors, agencies, and other constituencies. Present on-campus and/or virtual information sessions and participate in leading workshops during events for prospective and admitted students.
Admission reading and selection (20%)
* Interview and evaluate prospective applicants. Read, evaluate, and vote on admissibility of approximately 1000 candidates for admission to the college in coordination with a team of colleagues under the direction of the Dean of Admission.
Event programming and supervisory (10%)
* Coordinate large-scale events for prospective and admitted students as assigned by the Dean of Admission. Supervise programs intern. Cooperate with other administrators of the College where necessary, especially Student Financial Services and faculty. Keep abreast of pertinent developments at Smith College, in higher education, and in the field of professional admission work. Represent Smith College at professional conferences. Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree plus two years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Individual must hold valid driver's license and be able and willing to participate in both car and airplane travel.
Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Previous experience in admission preferred; previous experience with event planning and public speaking preferred. Individuals should be able to demonstrate fluidity with a variety of software and database management platforms.
The ability to effectively and efficiently develop and execute several key projects simultaneously. Must be able to work independently, have strong organizational and planning skills, and excellent writing and oral communication skills. The position requires strong analytical and computer expertise including familiarity with MS Office suite and CRM platforms and a willingness to adapt quickly to technologies transforming admission work today. Excellent interpersonal skills, able to effectively interact with people of all backgrounds, and participate as part of a cohesive team working toward a shared mission. Ability to use sound judgment, creativity, and vision.
