Foreign Student/Scholar Advisor

The Office of International Education (OIE) invites applications for the position of Foreign Student/Scholar Advisor. We especially welcome qualified candidates, with experience in the field, who can contribute through their work/life experiences to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. The Foreign Student/Scholar Advisor (FSSA) will share responsibilities for advising 8,000+ international students and scholars on Carnegie Mellon visa documents. Duties focus primarily on immigration-related matters, including immigration guidance and detailed record-keeping as required by federal law while following university policies and procedures. Additional FSSA responsibilities may include providing ongoing coordination with university departments before and after student and scholar arrival, program development and implementation, policy development, advocacy, and working on special projects. The FSSA will closely collaborate with other OIE staff in addition to university colleagues in various units including academic and administrative departments, as well as with other units within Enrollment Services. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of F and J immigration regulations, experience with SEVIS and batch software and have some familiarity with H-1B regulations.
