Island School (ischool.org) seeks Middle and/or High School Science and/or Math Teachers with a commitment to private education in a college preparatory environment. A full-time position includes teaching five classes (usually 2 or 3 courses), which may include a combination of Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Biology, Honors Biology, AP Biology, Geometry, Pre-Algebra, 7th Grade Math Fundamentals, Algebra, or other similar classes. The positions begin in late July for the 2021-2022 academic year. 

The successful candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, and a desire to be part of an independent school community. Candidates should have experience differentiating instruction to work effectively with a range of learners, demonstrate a passion for teaching Science and/or Math, and demonstrate effective classroom management strategies. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in teaching Science and/or Math, hold a minimum of a B.S. in Math, Science or Math/Science Education. Additional responsibilities include serving as an advisor, full participation in the life of the school, leading a club or other initiative, and/or coaching.  2 + years of relevant teaching experience in a non-profit, independent school preferred.

  • B.S. degree
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and in a group.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with parents, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to motivate and manage students.
  • Strong work ethic, adaptability, generous spirit, and confidence working with students.
  • Commitment to and alignment with the School's mission and vision

Additional Salary Information: Higher salary depending on experience and degrees.
