Bereavement Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY The Bereavement Counselor provides clinical bereavement services to hospice patients, family members and members of the community at large. When services are rendered to hospice clients, such care is coordinated and communicated with other members of the interdisciplinary team. In addition, the Bereavement Counselor assists in program development in the areas of grief and loss for hospice and community families. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provides supportive counseling, grief therapy and/or crisis intervention for adults, children and families in a manner consistent with Maryland licensure and Hospice of the Chesapeake (HOC) standards of care.

QUALIFICATIONS Master’s degree in counseling or related field from an accredited educational institution required. LGPC, LGSW or equivalent required. LCPC, LCSW-C or equivalent preferred. Minimum two years in counseling field required. Prior experience in grief counseling preferred. Demonstrated capability in working with diverse client/patient populations. Excellent oral and written communication skills; listening skills. Ability to work effectively, independently and as a member of a team. Basic knowledge and understanding of the grief process. Ability to communicate effectively with professionals of all disciplines. Demonstrated emotional maturity and ability to cope and work effectively with stress of continual loss. Exhibited understanding of and acceptance of the hospice philosophy. Proficient in Outlook/Microsoft Office/Excel/PowerPoint and able to learn/navigate Deyta bereavement software. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with/without reasonable accommodation. |
