The University of South Carolina’s (UofSC) Student Health Services’ Counseling & Psychiatry Department is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (NP/PMHNP) specialized in Mental Health who is interested in joining an award-winning accredited patient-centered medical home within a college health environment. The NP will work as part of a care team model, having ample resources to assist with care including psychiatrists, counselors, social workers, physicians, nurses and registered dietitians. The NP will provide psychiatric care to include but not limited to: assessment, evaluation, treatment, medication management, prevention and education and voluntary/involuntary hospitalization.
The NP will also implement and provide strategies to assist in the patient’s overall health and well-being. The provider will document patients’ medical and psychological histories, physical assessment results, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions or outcomes within an electronic health record. They will serve on high-risk and specialty treatment teams (i.e. eating disorder, alcohol). The provider may respond to campus crises and is considered mission critical. Master’s degree from accredited school of nursing (Advanced-Practice Registered Nursing) and 2 years’ experience in psychiatry/mental health environment. Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) (or eligible) by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Requires an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license (or eligible) in SC. Must obtain and continuously maintain credentials and privileges. CPR Certification or ability to obtain.
Experience in adolescent mental health, ability to solve problems, and monitor and examine patients. Strong computer skills and knowledge of DSM-V and ICD-10 coding are highly preferred. Experience managing patients with alcohol and other drug addictions, eating disorders and other complicated mental health disorders.
