St. Peter’s School is an independent, coeducational, non-sectarian Preschool through Eighth Grade school, educating approximately 175 students in the center of Philadelphia for over 180 years. We are seeking a full-time experienced Middle School Science teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. The ideal candidate will have experience planning an integrated science curriculum, is committed to challenging students of all levels academically, and understands the social and emotional growth and development of Middle School aged children.
As a Lead Teacher in the Upper School (grades 5-8), this position is responsible for the science curriculum and program within each grade level. Additionally, in conjunction with the Education Program Director and the Lower School Science teacher, reviewing the scope and sequence of the science program Preschool through 8th Grade. This person will work with other faculty to create interdisciplinary units, sharing resources and developing unique and distinctive opportunities for the St. Peter’s students to find a love of science and gain the necessary skills to pursue science in secondary school and beyond. While the primary responsibilities for this role are teaching science to grades 5-8, the expansion of STEM and innovative activities throughout the school are important. Working with faculty to bring STEM content into the classroom, developing partnerships across the city, and showcasing the creative ability of all our students will also be pursued.
Duties and Responsibilities
? Demonstrates strong classroom management skills
? Is responsible for ongoing assessment and communication of students’ progress with families including parent conferences and ongoing feedback
? Establishes positive and productive relationships with students based on mutual respect and from an equitable perspective
? Uses a variety of teaching techniques suitable to the developmental age and needs of the students
? Ensures that inclusive themes and diverse perspectives are incorporated throughout the curriculum
? Provides differentiated instruction and is comfortable with student led learning
? Encourages students to explore science related topics outside of the classroom through clubs, enrichment, after-school options and curricular extensions
? Uses a variety of technology formats to collaborate, publish, and engage with peers, colleagues, and families
? Attends faculty meetings, school events, pursues professional development opportunities, and contributes to committees on campus
? Serves as an Advisor to Middle School students
? Assists with additional duties as needed or assigned including recess, dismissal, lunch, clubs, and sports
? Meets all expectations regarding job responsibilities in a professional and timely manner
? Oversees the participation of students in local and regional science competitions
? Models ethical and professional behavior
