Capitol Hill Day School is a progressive, coeducational day school in Washington DC, for approximately 225 students in grades PK-8. At Capitol Hill Day School, learning is challenging, engaging, playful, and relevant to the real world. Students learn across subjects with an experiential curriculum that integrates not only academic subjects, but the arts, physical education, service learning, and technology. Through an extensive field education program, students take part in experiences beyond the classroom related to topics of study. The position duties include, but are not limited to, working with students, families, faculty/staff, external resources and are described below:
Work with Students
Provide individual and group counseling to students
Coordinate with external therapists and other specialists
Work with Social Worker and other staff to support expansion of student programs around equity, identity, and inclusion
Support the development of and implementation of behavior plans for students
Work with Families
Provide resources to families around social emotional topics
Consult with families around needs for children
Provide information about stages of development
Work with Faculty/Staff
Participate in grade level meetings, serving as a resource for student behavioral and emotional issues
Work with Learning Specialist and Social Worker to identify students requiring psycho-educational testing and coordinate identified services with students, families and teachers
Consult with Social Worker and staff on appropriate interventions for individual students
Identify or develop social emotional learning materials for delivery by advisors/teachers
Work with External Resources
Identify and cultivate external agencies and individuals to partner with to provide student, parent and family services
Coordinate with the Social Worker on site to contact additional crisis resources as necessary
For the 2021-2022 school year, Capitol Hill Day School anticipates an opening for a Middle School Counselor, Grade 5 - Grade 8.
Clinical experience working with elementary and middle school aged kids
DC licensure in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology
Experience in assessment of student mental health
