Middle School (5th-8th Grades) Math teacher

The Middle School Math program is a four-year sequence that thoughtfully and systematically helps students consolidate and deepen their learning of elementary math concepts while developing their understanding of algebraic principles, proportional reasoning, statistics, probability, and geometric thinking. Emphasis is placed on cooperative learning activities, inquiry-based lessons, and problem solving. Most students complete Algebra 1 by the end of their 8th Grade year, while a small group of students has the opportunity to accelerate and take Algebra 1 in 7th Grade and Geometry in 8th Grade. The Math teacher collaborates with other middle school faculty to create and facilitate  interdisciplinary and project-based learning opportunities. As one member of a team of four “cohort leaders,” the Math teacher serves as a student advisor and helps ensure the smooth functioning of the weekly schedule in either 5th and 6th Grades or 7th and 8th Grades. 

For the 2021-2022 school year, Capitol Hill Day School anticipates an opening for a 7th and 8th Grade math teacher.  The main content associated with this position is Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry.
