Reporting to the Director of Plastics, the Plastics Engineer will work directly with internal company personnel and external customers to achieve division and company goals. They will devise efficient ways to use workers, machines, materials, information, and energy to make higher quality products and improve processes. Daily responsibility is focused on but not limited to safety, quality, cost, and reducing delivery time.
Design plastics or injection-mold fabrication processes.
Create and improve injection-mold machinery.
Research and develop new manufacturing processes.
Analyze manufacturing data and suggest improvements.
Analyze production and machinery line.
Ensure quality output of molded components.
Develop and design engineered plastic parts, insert molded parts and assemblies.
Interact with customers, suppliers, and internal resources.
Establish the parameters for an optimal molding environment.
Analyze mold flow, part advisor analysis, finite element analysis, and stress/fatigue analysis on plastics.
Design hot/cold runner molds.
Develop 3D solid mold designs.
Four (4) year post-secondary degree in Plastics or Mechanical Engineering preferred or equivalent experience.
Experience in a manufacturing/operations environment with working knowledge of injection, blow and rotational molding.
Strong lean manufacturing experience especially in elimination of waste utilizing, 5S, value stream mapping, SMED, pull/Kanban, TPM, visual management and kaizen events.
Able to initiate, plan, direct, and execute process improvement projects.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work with minimum direction and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to develop positive working relationships with both internal and external customers.
Must possess good organizational and communication skills.
Must have a team-oriented mindset
Strong computer skills in order to analyze, organize and present data and information using Microsoft Office Suite.
Working CAD knowledge, SolidWorks a plus
Fluent in the English language with strong written and verbal communication skills.
A self-starter who takes a proactive approach and has good decision-making skills.
A self-motivated individual who excels in a challenging environment.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally.
