Mount de Sales Academy is searching for a highly qualified learning specialist and/or counselor to teach in the Sacred Heart Program for the 2021-2022 school year. The Sacred Heart (SH)program at Mount de Sales Academy serves college bound students who have diagnosed learning disabilities. Qualified candidates should have a degree in special education and/or school counseling.
The learning specialist will be expected to facilitate success and growth in students' academic and executive functioning skills through instruction. SH teachers work closely with small groups of students to target academic areas of weakness, create individualized goals and track student progress towards mastery. SH staff communicate regularly with teachers, parents, and the Program Director in order to assist with managing testing and classroom accommodations. The Sacred Heart learning specialist also serves as the school counselor for the Sacred Heart students. As a representative of Mount de Sales Academy, the employee is expected to support and carry out the school's mission
As a teacher within the Sacred Heart program, the learning specialist will:
Assist with the development and implementation of Sacred Heart Seminar curriculum (a course which explicitly focuses on executive, academic, and advocacy skills).
Work with individual students to apply new executive skills to managing their coursework
Utilize assessments and observations to monitor student progress towards goals
Construct practice and study materials to aid students in preparing for assessments
Communicate regularly with parents and teachers
As the Sacred Heart counselor, the learning specialist will:
Counsels students who are under-achieving, in serious academic difficulty, or experiencing social or emotional problems.
Consult with and serve as a resource for teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental needs of the students.
Degree/Certification in Secondary Special Education and/or Degree/Certification/experience in Counseling
Variety of academic knowledge and experience within a high school setting, especially in the areas of math and science.
Strong organizational skills.
Able to devise and implement creative And engaging lesson plans which provide for the varying needs of the student. Able to differentiate instruction
Strong written and spoken communication skills. Comfortable communicating with teachers and parents in order to problem solve and build strong relationships
Competency with computer and technical skills
