Upper School Math Teacher

George Walton Academy seeks an engaging, energetic Upper School Math teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Reporting to the Associate Head of School for Academics, the teacher will work closely with the math department and upper school faculty, with an emphasis on collaborating with colleagues to create interdisciplinary and engaging experiences for students.

Responsibilities

• Teach six classes and possess the ability and skills to successfully teach math to ninth-twelfth grade students

• Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences

• Create and sustain a positive classroom culture, based on the mission and values of the school

• Stay current on latest research in mathematics education and employ evidence-based practices to facilitate deep conceptual understanding as well as procedural fluency

• Observe/evaluate/assess students’ development and maintain accurate records regarding student progress and areas of growth

• Contribute to the cohesion, continuity and rigor of the Math department

• Serve as an advisor to a small group of Upper School students

• Enrich or modify lessons, curriculum, materials and resources as needed to meet differentiated student needs and varying levels of progress inside and outside of the classroom

• Communicate openly, timely and supportively with students, staff, parents and other stakeholders regarding student achievement and progress
