Responsibilities

Independently provides the full range of support services for a student program(s).
  • Plans and delivers MBA student support services throughout the student lifecycle - from pre-orientation through graduation.
  • Writes and edits timely student support services communications via email, newsletters, websites and social media.
  • Ensures that existing services and programs are well-planned and organized.
  • Assesses, creates and delivers new services, in person and via new platforms, as student services needs evolve.

Develops and maintains relationships with diverse groups of internal and external organization stakeholders critical to program and student success including those at the Haas School, at UC Berkeley and in the broader community.

Provides recommendations, reports, and metrics on feasibility of new and current programs that enhance the student experience.
  • Through formal survey and informal feedback processes, continuously monitors, assesses and reports on success of Program Office initiatives including:
  • Pre-orientation processes and programming
  • Orientation programming
  • Program Office communications to students including newsletters, websites and emails
  • Programs for student leadership development
  • Student engagement and morale events
  • Commencement

Provides ongoing transformational advising and leadership development to student leaders participating in student government, co-curricular programs and / or organizations on a wide range of issues. Advises student leaders on complex and sensitive issues. Brings extensive knowledge to a student generated field of interest and supports, guides and mentors students in formulating projects related to those issues. Guides students in interaction with campus leaders and represents students on these issues when appropriate. Coaches student leaders on communication and leadership skills.
  • Advises, coaches and supports MBA student government leaders.
  • Advises, coaches and supports MBA club leaders.
  • Plans and presents club leader workshops.
  • Creates and updates resource materials for club leaders.
  • Advises and supports student leaders in planning events and managing risk.
  • Serves as primary advisor to key clubs managing major events each semester such as conferences and case competitions.
  • Advises club leaders on fundraising and club stewardship.

Independently resolves moderate to complex individual cases regarding MBA student affairs or student life.
  • Advises students on health, wellness and safety issues, making referrals as needed.
  • Answers questions and resolves issues related to polices regarding co-curricular activities.
  • Answers questions, resolves issues and makes referrals regarding student life outside the classroom.
  • Advises, coaches and facilitates resolution of misunderstandings or disagreements between students.
  • Ensures all students feel the sense of belonging.

Administers a limited public service program, providing such services as working with outside agencies to refer students and develop programs to work in public service roles; identifying resources for student volunteer opportunities; matching student volunteers with outside public service agencies. Provides education, training and reflection opportunities to students engaged in public service.
  • Advises and supports the MBA community service club.
  • Ensures planning and coordination of volunteer service during orientation.
  • Manages internal data system and coordinates the recording of student service hours for volunteer recognition at graduation.

Manages a large student services business or multiple services. Recommends new business opportunities. Participates in long range planning and development and new initiatives.
  • Plans strategically for the current and future student services needs of over 600 MBA students annually.
  • Forms partnerships and works collaboratively with other departments within the Haas School and UC Berkeley, and works with external resource providers, to ensure that student needs are anticipated, understood and met with a high level of service.
  • Proposes, pilots and implements new student service initiatives to meet emerging needs.

  • Embraces the principle of being a 'student always' by engaging in opportunities for training, workshops, seminars, continuing education pertinent to the position, or at the suggestion of the supervisor.
  • Actively contributes to a team environment that fosters and promotes a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) within the unit and at Haas.
  • Engages in ongoing education to promote diversity, equity, inclusion & belonging by completing University sponsored certifications & training sessions (Ie: MEP Workshop, Implicit Bias Certification, LinkedIn Learning workshops, and other workshops & seminars offered by the University or Haas, as they are made available) or by engaging in external seminars & resources related to DEIB.
  • Exemplifies Haas Defining Principles: students always, confidence w/o attitude, question the status quo, and beyond yourself.
  • Seeks feedback through listening sessions and advising conversations with students from diverse backgrounds to ensure that their experiences and needs are heard and understood.
  • Plans programming including milestone events such as orientation and graduation with cultural sensitivity and a focus on the needs of students from varied identities and backgrounds.

Required Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills by demonstrating a desire to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, to establish and maintain positive & professional working relationships with colleagues, students and team members.
  • Service oriented, demonstrating multicultural competencies when working with diverse populations.
  • Excellent analytical skills, demonstrating critical thinking skills in problem identification and reasoning.
  • Works independently, with minimal supervision while demonstrating excellent multi-tasking skills. Must be able to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and work as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite as well as Google documents, spreadsheets and forms and can quickly and easily adapt to new technologies.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for student events.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates active listening and displays a finesse in maintaining cooperative relationships with other departments, programs, universities, community organizations and other institutions.
  • Demonstrates a high caliber of confidentiality.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of or can quickly learn University rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of or can quickly learn University processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of or can quickly learn University-specific computer applications.
  • Master's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Salary & Benefits

This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary will be commensurate with experience up to $75,500.00.
