Oldfields School, an all-girls international boarding and day school, grades 8-12, located in northern Baltimore County, seeks applicants for an experienced Humanities Teacher. This is a full-time, exempt position with an August 2021 start date. The ideal candidate will be comfortable teaching varying levels of English language and literature classes as well as developing and teaching interdisciplinary courses within the Humanities. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Humanities teacher who seeks a broad degree of autonomy in course development, possesses a high degree of integrity, and holds a keen interest and deep commitment to the value of single-sex independent school education.
Teach up to five Humanities classes per semester. This includes teaching core and elective courses, including Advanced Placement courses. The candidate will teach primarily English courses, but strong candidates will demonstrate an interest and enthusiasm for developing future courses that stretch traditional disciplinary boundaries within the Humanities.
Actively engage and support the School’s commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community as defined by the School’s Diversity Statement and strategic plans and initiatives.
Support the development of the School’s Arts and Global Justice concentration programs.
Develop and lead weekend, winter term, and May Program experiential learning activities and programs. Winter Term and May Program are one and two-week annual experiential programs. These programs range from on-campus offerings to international travel programs.
Maintain regular communication about student academic progress with students, parents, advisors, the Humanities Department Chair, and Director of Academics. This includes effective use of the School’s online class management and gradebook systems.
Adhere to and assist in enforcing all School policies and procedures.
Promote the mission of the School.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Academics.
Other Required Duties:
Serve as an advisor for 3-5 students and perform other duties supporting the School community.
Serve on weekend and weekday duty team rotations.
Coach or lead athletic or co-curricular activities.
A. in English or a related Humanities field is required.
Three or more years of relevant full-time teaching experience.
Understanding of and desire to work with high school students.
Energy, enthusiasm, and curiosity.
A passion for creative expression with a willingness to inspire and support all kinds of learners.
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency.
Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn G-Suite applications.
