The Student Health and Well-being (SHW) cluster of the UC San Diego, which reports through UC San Diego Health System, plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. This includes promotion and the expansion/development of a student health and well-being center, and the transformation of existing departments, under the oversight of the executive director, into a cohesive, trans-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services. The SHW cluster includes the departments of Student Health Services (SHS), Health Promotion Services (HPS), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and SHW Administration.
CAPS delivers campus-based mental health services to over 39,000 registered UCSD undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students. CAPS' multicultural, multidisciplinary, and student-centered staff strives to deliver culturally proficient counseling services, outreach programming, consultation, research, and training opportunities.
UCSD CAPS is seeking a skilled mental health professional, experienced in reducing barriers to student mental health care in a multicultural university environment, to provide counseling and clinical services for a diverse student population. Emphasis area for this position will be addressing the mental health needs of students with Eating Disorders, to foster their academic success and wellness at UCSD. This position requires proven training, expertise, commitment, and sustained engagement in working with students with Eating Disorders towards their personal development, well-being, and academic success, through culturally proficient individual, group and community interventions.
This licensed professional performs psychological assessments towards diagnosis and the formulation of a treatment plan, the provision of focused psychotherapy and referral of students to appropriate level of care. Also participates in after hours, on-call, and urgent care coverage. The incumbent provides consultation to faculty, staff and administration, engages in mental health promotion and education to a diverse college population, and delivers preventive outreach including psycho-educational programming and evaluation. Incumbent also provides supervision and training of CAPS Post-doctoral Residents and maintains quality assurance and improvement in compliance standards.
Ph.D or Psy.D. from an accredited program in clinical or counseling psychology and completion of an APA accredited internship.
Current, valid license in California as a psychologist. Out-of-state licensed psychologists have 180 days to complete licensure requirements in the State of California.
Demonstrated expertise, training, knowledge, and experience assessing and treating patients with Eating Disorders.
Thorough knowledge of applicable laws and standards of professional conduct. Knowledge of thecurrent laws, procedures, and the American Psychological Association ethical principles that govern the practice of psychology in the State of California.
Proven ability to conduct culturally proficient and focused individual, conjoint, couples, and family counseling and psychotherapy, as well crisis intervention at an individual and community level.
Sustained knowledge and experience working with a culturally diverse college populations including ability and expertise with traditionally under-served student groups.
Thorough knowledge associated with providing evaluation, diagnosis and psychotherapy services through Intake clinical interviews, psychodiagnostic assessment, treatment plan formulation and recommendations.
Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and written by skills to record in a neat, orderly and logical manner, as well as to engage in a helpful, non-judgmental manner orally in person and by phone.
