Job Summary

The Lawrence J. Ellison Institute is seeking a talented and passionate Specialized Research Advisor to join its team. As part of the Ellison Institute, the Specialized Research Advisor is responsible for the daily operations of our laboratory facilities to support highly technical and complex research projects. The combined 11,100 sq. ft. laboratory space is fully equipped with up-to-date equipment and divided thematically for experimental (Multiscale Biology Laboratory, Microenvironment Laboratory, Drug Discovery Laboratory, Applied Therapeutics Laboratory, and Biomimetic Models Laboratory) and computational (Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Laboratory and Immersive Visualization Laboratory) basic and translational research. The Institute is made up of a diverse group of innovative and talented professionals who work in a fast-paced environment that provides ongoing support to research projects, patient care, lab research and administrative operations.

The Specialized Research Advisor is responsible for performing the following job duties:

Job Accountabilities:

• Organize and maintain laboratory facilities, and advise on laboratory policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with principal investigators and other researchers to determine long range goals and objectives for research projects and associated facilities.
• Make recommendations to researchers regarding new equipment and best practices to employ. Interact with vendors to negotiate purchases and service contracts.  
• Provide advisement on the management of calibration, evaluation, maintenance and operation of specialized laboratory equipment. Assist with maintenance, upgrading, and troubleshooting of equipment.
• Develop and conduct group training sessions on how to operate specialized technical equipment and proper techniques and procedures to use for research projects.
• Consult on and assist with the development and implementation of information databases.
• Provide guidance and direction to staff and student workers associated with laboratory operations on a regular basis.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Preferred Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate

Preferred Experience: 5 years

Preferred Field of Expertise: Directly related education and experience in specialized research field (i.e., life sciences, cancer biology, or similar) with thorough knowledge and procedures, analytical methodology, principles, concepts, and equipment. Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, planning, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

Salary Range: $83,258.13 - $112,450.31
