Under general supervision, incumbent will independently performs molecular biology experiments and maintaining mouse colonies. Techniques include purifying DNA and RNA; perform quantitative PCR; prepare samples for FACS. Mouse work will include setting up breedings, PCR genotyping, mouse injection including tail vein injections, dissection and mouse sample analysis. Incumbent will process blood and tissues from patients enrolled in a clinical trial, analyzes the results and prepares data for reports. General laboratory activities will include ordering, trouble shooting experimental design and equipment, attending lab meetings, and maintaining a safe work environment according to EH&S, state and federal standards.
Perform preclinical study experiments designed for collection of safety and efficacy data of a gene therapy product. Will work with various cell types, human blood and mouse models. Additional duties include performing general lab duties and equipment maintenance, assisting in mouse colony management, lentivirus production and cell culture.
Must be a self-starter who can contribute to method development and troubleshoot experiments. Excellent organization and time management skills required to balance various projects at once. Candidate should be adept at conducting academic research and, as required, conform to a more structured and stringent level of research employing Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs). Good interpersonal and communication skills required to work in a diverse work environment and train others. Knowledge of virus transduction of mammalian cells, stem cell isolation, and GLPs is desirable.
Advanced theoretical knowledge of cell biology, molecular biology or related field, as typically attained by a Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated experience with AAV-mediated gene therapy.
Demonstrated experience in molecular and cellular biology including: RNA/DNA isolation, Real-time PCR, and tissue culture.
Proven demonstrated experience in molecular biology techniques, including DNA and RNA purification, RT-PCR, PCRless than immunoprecipitation, and electrophoresis.
Practical background with demonstrated ability in mouse colony management, handling, genotyping, and minor animal procedures, such as IP and tail vein injection, retro-orbital bleeding, blood collection and surgery.
Ability to effectively communicate in writing and/or oral scientific research-based concepts.
Proven ability to work with a large number of samples with accuracy and efficiency.
Demonstrated experience to understand, utilize and analyze quantitative data.
Demonstrated ability to take direction, be detail oriented and follow step-wise instruction. Demonstrated ability to calculate and prepare dilutions.
Demonstrated experience in general laboratory housekeeping procedures including maintaining inventory and equipment, ordering supplies, preparing solutions, maintaining cleanliness and safety in a laboratory setting.
Proven ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, establishing and maintaining good working relationships with P.I., supervisor, postdoctoral scholars, and other members of the research group.
Demonstrated ability to design, develop and implement new research and experimental techniques to meet research objectives.
Demonstrated experience making innovative and significant independent contributions to design, troubleshoot, analyze and perform experiments and techniques.
Demonstrated experience performing experimental protocols unsupervised and in recommending modifications to procedures and protocols to meet the needs of research projects. Proven ability to make determinations and design experiments with attention to detail, analyze and interpret results, and provide accurate documentation and data suitable for publication.
Proven ability in computer skills, including Office and Excel.
PhD in related field.
