Upper School Dean of Student Life

Friends School is a Quaker, co-educational, college preparatory school, Pre-K through Grade 12, in Baltimore City, enrolling 880 students, 37% of whom identify as children of color. Context and Philosophy

Friends School of Baltimore has an opening for a full time Upper School Dean of Student Life to begin in August 2021 for the 2021-22 school year. This 10.5-month position will join the Upper School Administrative Team and be responsible for overseeing the student discipline system, the Grade Dean system, coordinating the international student program, overseeing the student government and other aspects of Upper School student life, and may include one section of classroom teaching.

Responsibilities:

• Serve on and collaborate with the Upper School Administrative Team (Principal, Academic Dean, Director of College Counseling, Counselor, Director of Student Support)
• Supervise and implement the student discipline system through the development and communication of school rules, policies, and community standards as outlined in the Upper School handbook.
• Provide leadership and coordination of the Grade Dean system
• Coordinate the International Student program through admissions, host family support, academic advising, and the cultivation of strategic partnerships with consultants and service providers.
• Oversee the student government and its related activities such as Prom, fundraisers, community building events
• Oversee the Upper School student clubs, stewardship, extracurricular program
• Support and attend the Upper School Meeting for Business
• Serve on the All School Convocation Committee
• Coordinate new student and family orientation in August (Smart Start)
• Provide leadership and support for student-led special days (Quaker Community Day, Convocation Day for Social Justice, Earth Day)
• Attend All-School Professional Days, Department meetings, and Upper School faculty meetings.
• Collaborate with teachers and administrators within his/her Department, within the division, and cross-divisionally.
• Serve on committees, task forces, and working groups in the development and implementation of various faculty and administrative-led initiatives

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree and experience preferred.
• Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to understand and incorporate Quaker Principles and Quaker education into their work.
