Dean, Library
Governors State University
Governors State University seeks a visionary, collaborative leader to serve as the Dean of the Library. The Dean is the chief administrator of the University Library and reports directly to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. The position is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced library administrator to lead the library faculty and staff, serve the students and faculty, and advance the mission and vision of one of Illinois’ public comprehensive universities. The Dean of the Library is a 12-month administrative position with responsibility for the organization, administration, operation, and evaluations of university library services, physical facilities, faculty, staff, collections and budget. The Dean mentors librarians who are part of the university’s unionized tenure-stream faculty, and supports their work with faculty colleagues across campus. Working with faculty and staff, the Dean enables the University Library to support the institutional mission by developing the library’s collections and services, supporting research and scholarship, engaging emergent technologies, and promoting and advocating for library programs that address the needs of students, staff, faculty, and the community. The Dean serves on the Deans Council. Convened by the Provost, the Council considers a broad array of areas including strategic initiatives, institutional effectiveness, budgeting, curricular and administrative issues, academic policies and college/Academic Affairs initiatives aimed at enhancing both faculty and student life on campus. As one of the administrators in Academic Affairs, the Dean provides leadership and contributes to academic and student services in close collaboration with Information Technology Services, Digital Learning and Media Design, and the Writing Center. Outside of the University, the Dean works closely with other Illinois public university deans as well as representing the Library in the community and region, and at the state and national levels.
