Director of Wellness and Belonging

The Director of Wellness and Belonging is a full-time administrative position who reports to the Associate Head of School and the Head’s Office. This individual works closely with the senior administrative team to build a community and programs that support wellness and belonging across all constituents. The director must have a capacity for teamwork and for developing sensitive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and board members; have the ability to manage thoughtfully the personal, political, and institutional dynamics related to wellness and belonging; be a self-starter with strong communication skills; and have a deep concern and compassion for people. This role will coordinate closely with the Counseling Department, Director of Student Diversity Recruitment and Retention, and Deans of Student Life.

Job Responsibilities

Community:

• Based upon the school’s mission and long-range plan, provide strategic leadership in the areas of wellness and belonging in the school community and as part of the overall strategic initiatives of the school

• Ensure that health and wellness activities, communications, and programs reflect Potomac’s character in collaboration with counselors and student life leaders

• Ensure that Potomac is creating systems that promote a sense of belonging

• Be fully immersed in the school community and engaged in school events

• Develop sensitive working relationships with students, faculty and staff, and parents to manage the personal, political, and institutional dynamics related to wellness and belonging in the school

• Participate as an active member of the school’s health, safety, and security committee

Students:

• Manage student cases and collaborate with the counseling team

• Partner with program coordinators to provide ongoing support and programming for students and families from traditionally marginalized communities

• Support and develop student leadership, including the identification, design, and integration of opportunities within current student leadership training programs

• Design and oversee special programs to meet the needs of students and their families in the areas of wellness and belonging

• In collaboration with the Director of Student Diversity Recruitment and Retention, and STEPS leadership, support student retention efforts

• Assume teaching, advising, and/or coaching duties as appropriate

Administrative:

• Act as a member of the DEI and Mental Health and Wellness board committees

• Support faculty and staff recruitment efforts, including participating in Potomac’s Diversity Hiring Fair

• Act as a resource on wellness for faculty and staff in their work with students and in the development of curriculum and programs

• Design and oversee professional development opportunities in the areas of wellness and belonging

• Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops

• Perform other duties as assigned
