Friends Academy seeks an energetic individual to join its library team as a Lower & Middle School Teacher Librarian. Friends Academy’s libraries strive to provide student-friendly learning environments and inclusive collections. Our teacher-librarians are dedicated professionals who share a genuine love of working with children and teens, their teachers, and the larger school community.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Support the teaching of research skills to Lower and Middle School students and integrate technology into these lessons.
Foster an atmosphere of creativity and innovation, and a love of reading and learning
Maintain an attractive, dynamic, current, and well-stocked library conducive to reading,study, and research
Collaborate with colleagues across the Middle and Lower Schools and participate ininterdisciplinary instruction and curriculum development
Maintain a circulation system that ensures the prompt return of materials and theirready availability to other borrowers
Teach students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, and knowledgeableresearchers
Serves as an advisor to a group of 8-10 students.
Bachelor’s degree; Master’s of Library Science from an A.L.A. accredited program ispreferred
An additional degree in Education a plus
At least three years of school librarian experience preferred
Extensive knowledge of and enthusiasm for children’s and young adult literature and the ability to bean effective resource for students, teachers, and families
Demonstrated experience and passion for educating children through an inclusive lens
A sincere commitment to professional development and investigating emerging trendsin school library services
Passionate about working with and inspiring students
