Math Fellow

Our Teaching Fellows contribute to life at our school and earn a Master of Arts in Teaching degree at the Capital Region campus of Clarkson Graduate School. The fellows participate in professional development opportunities throughout their time at Emma Willard School. This two-year position involves teaching under the guidance of an experienced teaching mentor. The fellow will also coach at least one season of a sport and will have residential life responsibilities. Compensation includes full payment for graduate school tuition, room and board during the school year, and a stipend. 

For the 2021-2022 and 2022-23 school years, we seek a Math Fellow who will teach two sections of a mathematics course and will be responsible for collaborating regularly with mathematics teachers of all levels. Emma Willard’s Math curriculum strives to engage students consistently in developing a strong skills foundation and problem solving, using technology to enhance student learning. The math fellow will contribute to the continuous effort to review, refresh and expand the math curriculum. Dedication to the holistic wellness of students is essential, as is ability and comfort in frequent communication with students’ advisors and parents.

To be considered for this position, the candidate needs also to be accepted into the graduate program at Clarkson University. 

Responsibilities

1. Create daily lesson plans working with partner teachers and a mentor.
2. Work with teachers to understand the scope and sequence of the Mathematics curriculum.
3. Participate in and build upon the Mathematics curriculum.
4. Hold self and students to the highest level of standards in the classroom.
5. Create and administer appropriate assessments as consistent with departmental philosophy and practice.
6. Grade assessments and offer substantive feedback in a timely manner.
7. Keep accurate records of assignments, attendance, and grades on the electronic learning management system.
8. Compose student comments at the end of grading periods.
9. Provide individual support to students as needed.
10. Communicate with students’ advisors, parents, and/or houseparents as appropriate.
11. Participate in school-wide functions and events.
12. Coach at least one sport or an equivalent extracurricular commitment.
13. Work one night a week and several weekends a year in the dorm.
14. Attend and contribute to departmental, faculty, and faculty and staff meetings.
15. Be a positive force in the lives of students.
