Residence Life Specialist (Residence Life Coordinator)

Department RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS & SERV (BA-RPAS-IUBLA) Job Summary The Residence Life Specialist is responsible for promoting a community living experience and implementing the Residential Curriculum that supports well-being, understanding self and others, intellectual engagement, and civic stewardship through intentional experiences. Works collaboratively with colleagues in managing the operations of the residence hall, supporting Residential Programs and Service's (RPS) mission and Diversity Statement, and promoting the values of the organization through building a safe and inclusive environment. Directly supervises the Administrative Generalist Coordinator, Graduate Assistants, and undergraduate Resident Assistants engaged in providing 24 hour per day academic, developmental, and counseling support to students. Provides indirect supervision of the CommUNITY Educator(s). Provides leadership and support to residents and staff dealing with personal emergency or crisis situations as well as physical building emergencies through an area on-call capacity. Coordinates staff duty coverage. Prepares and submits reports and approves hours in the TIME system. Works with Residential Life and Human Resource personnel in interviewing, hiring, training, and corrective action of staff at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional level. Holds weekly one-on-one meetings as well as team meetings with staff. Creates, adapts, and provides vision and accountability for the in-center delivery strategies of Student Engagement Plans. Works with individual students and staff in crisis situations. Supports advisors to student groups (Student Government, Conduct Board, Learning Community Leadership Councils, Welcome Week) and works with student leaders to provide programs and activities for residents. Develops and maintains ongoing professional working relationships to support a healthy, challenging, and supportive academic living environment for residents. Works with Conference Services to provide support, including serving as a building point-person with the client, performing check-in and check-out, staffing the residential areas and the center desk, and in conduct and emergency response capacities. Communicates, interprets, and administers residence hall rules and regulations as well as the Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, Conduct. Serves as a judicial officer. Works with the Dean of Students office to follow up with students involved in bias-related incidents and students of concern, including facilitating behavioral agreements. Mediates student and staff conflicts, including roommate conflicts. Required Qualifications Master's degree in higher education student affairs, counseling, or closely related field. Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Experience in student services, higher education, or related field. Proficient communication skills. Maintains a high degree of professionalism. Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills. Demonstrates a high commitment to quality. Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty. Demonstrated analytical skills. Demonstrated problem solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Two years of supervisory experience in a residential setting. Residential Curriculum or learning outcomes-based programming experience. Crisis management and judicial / conduct experience. Experience working with a budget. Experience with additional management systems related to residence hall operations. Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
