The mission of the financial aid office at Augsburg is to provide students and families with the tools and skills necessary to pay for college. The Financial Aid Counselor will provide student counseling and aid processing for a wide breadth of functions within the department.
Counsel on all aspects of financial aid. This includes in-person meetings, student service window, phone, and email conversations.
Obtain and evaluate confidential information from the student and family in order to advise on eligibility for aid, aid application process, and college financing options.
Provide accurate information regarding a wide range of topics relating to both student financial aid and student accounts.
Assist with the processing of federal, state and institutional funding.
Assist with new and returning student awarding.
Oversee the student aid application process.
Present financial aid and financial literacy material to small and large groups. This may include orientations for new students, outreach events, financial literacy events, and etc.
Supervise student workers
Other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s).
Three years related experience required; examples may include financial outreach and education, college access advocacy, higher education administration, education, counseling, banking or finance.
Strong communications skills, including strong active listening; professional written communication skills; public speaking skills.
Demonstrate cultural competency and actively seek to grow in this area.
Skilled at offering sound guidance to families/students in challenging situations. Able to explain and apply federal, state and institutional policies to a vast array of situations and processes.
