Upper School Mathematics Teacher

Holland Hall seeks a passionate, committed educator who is energized by work with students to serve as a full-time Upper School Math Teacher. This teaching position is responsible for five sections of Math classes, with three preparations. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach a variety of levels, potentially including Calculus and/or Statistics. Average class size is fourteen students. Specific course assignments are determined each year, as enrollment warrants. The candidate should have a history of evaluating student progress and offering individualized? help to meet student needs. Our Mathematics program emphasizes a conceptual approach, focusing on making connections and developing deeper understandings rather than rote memorization. We value experiential learning, and we foster an atmosphere where curriculum is developed and refined to reflect the contemporary world. The position also entails serving as an advisor to a small group of upper school students starting in the second year of service to the school. This role entails keeping track of each advisee’s progress through ongoing communication with teachers and families, including two family conferences per year. Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following: • Demonstrates a broad knowledge of mathematics and current math pedagogy • Incorporates a wide-range of assessment practices • Designs and implements homework and assessments that are consistent with school norms • Demonstrates an engaging and enthusiastic classroom presence ?• Reports student grades and writes teacher comments periodically during school year • Manages and updates course materials and grades in a timely fashion on PowerSchool Learning, the school’s learning management system • Communicates clearly and proactively with all constituencies of the academic community, i.e., students, parents, supervisors, colleagues, and alumni • Participates in ongoing development of curriculum through collaboration with colleagues • Attends department and faculty meetings • Differentiates for individual learning styles and provides individualized assistance outside of class, as appropriate to meet student needs • Maintains a high level of organization in order to balance the teaching demands within a modular schedule The above essential functions are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. Qualifications Interested candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree. A Master’s degree and teaching experience are preferred but not required. Holland Hall’s Upper School is a One-to-One program with MacBook laptops, so faculty must use this platform. WORKING CONDITIONS
