Gould Academy, an independent boarding school of 215 students, grades 9-PG, in Bethel, Maine, seeks a personable, certified Athletic Trainer to care for students with injuries. Athletic Trainer is a member of the Health Services Department, managing and providing for the care of injuries for students at Gould Academy. They are responsible for rendering emergency care, developing injury prevention programs, and providing appropriate preventative measures and devices for the physically active person. We are looking for an enthusiastic person with a desire to work with adolescent students. Excellent organizational and administrative abilities; effective writing and oral skills; and compatibility with an environment conducive to teamwork and collegiality are all essential. This position reports jointly to the Director of Health Services and the Athletic Director. They work closely with their Advising Team Leader, students, faculty, parents, and nurses and outside professionals.

Assesses, manages, and provides treatment and rehabilitation and recondition of the physically active person whose conditions are within the professional preparation and education of a certified athletic trainer
Coordinates with the Director of Health Services to ensure that the athletes have access to athletic health care
Collaborates with and supports the Athletic Director as needed
Establishes and posts daily hours of operation for the Athletic Training Room
Is available for students during the daytime hours (through dinner time) M-F, in accordance with the school calendar
Develops plans for providing athletic health care at interscholastic athletic events
Provides on-site coverage at home games and events and is on call and on campus for other home games and events when present at one
Is reachable by phone if not in the training room during above mentioned times
Includes the use of modalities such as mechanical stimulation, heat, cold, light, air, water, electricity, sound, and massage
Implements/advises on the use of therapeutic exercises, reconditioning exercise, and fitness programs for adolescent students
Exhibits excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently with confidence, strong organizational and time management skills, a commitment to wellness, and a “whole person” team approach
Must be certified by the Board of Certification (BOC) and maintain the standards established by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) role delineation study.
Must obtain and maintain, in good standing, state licensure as an athletic trainer.
Be a member in good standing with NATA, the local NATA district, and the state athletic trainers’ association.
Bachelor’s degree is required.
Master’s degree preferred.
CSCS or PES preferred.
Current certification in CPR.
Possess a valid driver’s license
