Annie Wright’s strong community cultivates individual learners to become well-educated, creative and responsible citizens for a global society.
The Upper Schools Business and Math Teacher encourages students to explore, analyze, examine, and question, and, ultimately, inspires students to understand the world, and their place in it, through a more critical and well informed lens. In both academic and co-curricular spaces, the Business Teacher is a mentor, a guide and an advocate for student voice and exploration.
The Business and Math Teacher serves as a guide to translate goals into action by building financial, consumer and digital literacy, and ensuring students have the tools to make smart financial decisions through basic financial literacy, Business Mathematics or other similar courses.
In Grades 11 and 12, through the IB Business Management curriculum, the Business Teacher inspires an examination of how business organizations function, the way in which individuals and groups interact in the workplace, the impacts of context on business decisions, and how these are different based on cultural, organizational, and structural elements, as well as an evaluation of the voices and perspectives present and missing in this work. Through elevating student voice and personal expression, the Business Teacher allows students to own their learning and make the subject relevant to their own lives.
In the after-school (s)Elective space, the Business Teacher further leans in to the roles of mentor and guide. In this space innovation and creativity reign. The Business Teacher equips students to explore entrepreneurial ventures, learn skills, and examine the world of business through hands-on activities, interviews and trips, while encouraging collaborative and innovative ways to engage with and support the local community. As a mentor, the Business Teacher encourages students to begin building a resume and supports students as they build skills, establish contacts, and develop the confidence to innovate, create, and contribute to their communities.
As a core member of the Upper Schools faculty, the Business and Math Teacher reports to both Upper Schools’ Division Directors, working collaboratively with them and other faculty to continuously assess the curriculum and review best practices, and is integral in supporting and developing students that embody the school’s mission and vision.
