River Oaks Baptist School is seeking a dynamic and innovative educator to join our team as the Lower School Digital Lab Teacher beginning August 2021. The Lower School Digital Lab Teacher is responsible for teaching weekly computer classes to students in grades 1 – 4. The curriculum includes a vertically-aligned computer curriculum, research and information literacy, coding, robotics, multimedia tools, and digital citizenship. The person in this position also works closely with the Lower School Librarian on research skills for grades 1 – 4. Students in grades K – 3 have 1:1 iPads; fourth graders have 1:1 tablet PCs. Fourth grade also has access to iPads. The Digital Lab Teacher also runs the Lower School portion of our student-centered broadcast studio, KROB, which includes mentoring fourth graders in script writing, filming, and editing to produce the daily morning broadcast.
The Lower School Digital Lab teacher is an integral part of a special areas team that plans and works closely together. Other Lower School special areas include art, Bible, library, maker space, music, Spanish, and theatre. This position reports to the Head of Lower School. All Lower School faculty are supported by an experienced divisional team devoted to developing both students and faculty, including an Instructional Coach, Counselor, Learning Specialist, Reading Specialists, Assistant Head of Lower School, Head of Lower School, and Associate Head of School for Academics. Teach digital lab classes to students in grades 1 – 4 and robotics and coding to students in K – 4
Collaborate with K – 4 classroom teachers on the integration of computer skills with other academic disciplines
Work closely with the Lower School Librarian on research skills for grades 1 – 4
Run the Lower School portion of KROB to produce the daily morning broadcast
Model and guide students in Christ-like values and character development
Employ current pedagogies, including project-based learning and design thinking
Embrace lifelong learning and a growth mindset for adults and students alike
Participate collaboratively in grade-level, divisional, and all-school teams
Develop and practice cultural competence in teaching and teamwork
Communicate effectively with parents and colleagues, both verbally and in writing
Demonstrate enthusiasm, energy, initiative, and self-reflection
Motivate and engage students
Delight in teaching children in the elementary school years
A vibrant Christian faith and a desire to work in a Christian environment
A bachelor's degree
Teaching certification appropriate to the subject and grade level of assignment
Two year's full-time teaching experience preferred
