Middle School Science Teacher

Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Middle School Science Teacher. Our Science Department, whose teaching practices are rooted in student-centered, lab-based, and constructivist approaches, seeks an individual eager to share his/her/their passion and respect for science as an intellectual framework and a medium for progressive social change. The ideal candidate will exhibit a love of learning and eagerness to engage with middle school students; an ability to forge creative connections among core ideas in science; openness to and experience in the use of varied assessment methods and tools; the desire for generous collaboration with colleagues; and demonstrated interest in incorporating sustainability and justice issues into the curriculum.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Teaching: 

• Teach four sections of Science 7 and/or Science 8
• Work to support student learning on an individual basis, as needed
• Develop daily plans, keep accurate grades, effectively and supportively communicate with students and families, and provide written and oral feedback on student progress throughout the school year

Additional Responsibilities: 

• Assume role as an advisor for a group of students (approximately 7-9 students)
• Co-advise a club or activity and participate in supervision duties
• Accompany students on occasional curricular trips
• Demonstrate energetic commitment to professional development
• Attend and contribute to meetings during and after the school day, including but not limited to departmental, committee, divisional and grade-level meetings
• Attend community events throughout the school year
