Dorm Counselor

Job Description

Dorm counselors are responsible for supporting the student body in their effort to generalize daily living skills.  The position allows the appropriate candidate an opportunity to explore employment at a preeminent private, college-prep boarding school; find pathways to advancement within EHS and the independent school world; and, to directly impact change in the lives of 220 high school students with learning (dis)abilities within a college prep environment.

Hours: Sun.-Thurs. 3pm-11pm (and student wakeups)

Openings for 3 positions 1 in underclassmen boys dorm and 2 for underclassmen girls.

Essential Duties

A resident counselor’s duties include, but are not limited to:

• Maintain responsibility for the residential program of 18-20 students
• Develop a program for, and guide, each student in areas of executive function, time management, organization etc…with the goal being the internalization of these processes before graduation and enrollment in college.
• Oversee morning routines
• Supervise evening study hall
• Facilitate clubs and activities or coach a sport
• Maintain consistent expectations for appropriate faculty/student and student/student interactions
• Administrate appropriate education in and out of the dormitory as assigned by the Assistant Headmaster for Student Life
• Serve as the primary point of contact for the parents and family of students under the resident counselor’s supervision.
• Complete satisfactorily all necessary reports and records needed for parents, Eagle Hill School, or related agencies
• Participate in rotational weekend duties and holiday sendoff/return transportation responsibilities as assigned
• Attend all training sessions, opening day, faculty meetings, parent conferencing, graduation and technology training unless excused by the Headmaster or is designee
• Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Headmaster for Student Life
