Dabney S. Lancaster Community College is seeking a 9 Month Associate Instructor to teach assigned culinary and hospitality courses. The Associate Instructor is responsible for classroom and lab instruction; providing quality instruction for a diverse student population; and performing instructional duties and responsibilities in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the college. Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach assigned culinary and hospitality courses, and associated labs in accordance with college's workload policy; provide students with course materials including syllabus, grading/attendance policy, and other relevant information in a timely manner; post and maintain office hours; participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes; establish, maintain and submit accurate student and instructional records in a timely manner.
Supervise and coordinate of all aspects of food production within a teaching kitchen; oversee department budget; plan menus, purchase food and other supplies, ensure proper food handling, storage and sanitation practices; maintain equipment and supply inventory.
Serve on and lead activities of the DSLCC Culinary Arts Program Advisory Board; serve as the Culinary Arts Club advisor; serve on college committees as assigned; collaborate with the VP of Academic Affairs to review and maintain the integrity of program curriculum.
Participate in annual assessment reporting and reaccreditation with the American Culinary Federation and SACS-COC; develop and review course curriculum, instructional materials, and evaluation tools; review and update course outlines.
Support student recruitment and retention, including academic advisement of program students and outreach to potential students; evaluate transfer credentials and courses related to culinary and hospitality management; refer students to college support staff for appropriate assistance.
Participate in discussions with college administrators and officials at other institutions of higher education for the establishment of college and career pathways for DSLCC graduates seeking further study at or beyond the baccalaureate level; integrate knowledge of industry trends and professional training to continuously improve program quality.
Develop and maintain partnerships with local area restaurants to assist in arranging field experiences and internships for program students; collaborate with college, community and area high schools in support of college culinary events; works with other staff in support of the culinary program.
Oversee adjuncts at all instructional sites, including faculty serving dually enrolled high school students and faculty in the main teaching kitchen at the DSLCC Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista.
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Food Science or Hotel/Restaurant Management from a regionally accredited institution.
In lieu of Bachelor's degree, an Associate's degree in Culinary Arts from an accredited institution OR certification from an accredited culinary institute may be considered with extensive experience.
