Learning Specialist Full Time Grades K-9

The Pike School community represents culturally and socio-economically diverse families from 38 communities.  Pike is seeking a full-time, experienced Learning Specialist, who will provide individualized and small group academic support to a diverse student body of elementary and middle school aged students (grades K - 9) in an independent school setting.  The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills that will enable him/her to communicate effectively with students, parents, and faculty.  In addition, we are hoping to find a candidate who is comfortable supporting our younger students in reading and our older students in math and writing. This position will begin school year 2021-2022.

Pike seeks candidates who possess skills in culturally responsive teaching and leadership practices and a dedication to working in a diverse community. Candidates must also have demonstrated a commitment to collaboration and lifelong learning, as well as an expertise in best practices in elementary education. Pike faculty and staff are an integral part of the Pike community who inspire our students to become independent thinkers and responsible citizens.

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Provide strategy-based content support to learning services students during school and before and after school.
• Provide individualized reading support for students in K - 8 using a research based systematic program.
  
• Provide individualized writing and math support to Pike students in grades 3 – 8
  
• Attend learning services department meetings 
  
• Write reports for individual learning services students three times per year
  
• Interpret test results, with support, to review with students, teachers and parents
  
• Teach one section of 6th grade study skills course
• Assist teachers in providing academic accommodations and test modifications
