Lincoln School, founded in 1884, is an independent K-12 Quaker girls’ school in Providence, Rhode Island. We are seeking applicants for a full-time Upper School English Department faculty member beginning in September 2021. Lincoln School values working with a diverse faculty and staff and seeks applications from individuals who share our commitment to educating girls to fearlessly embrace the opportunities and responsibilities of full citizenship in a complex world.
Through interactions with the written word in its many forms, English classes at Lincoln invite students to learn about themselves and the world. At every level, students develop their voices as writers and speakers, exercise critical thinking skills, and learn values for (and the value of) contributing to the broader conversation. Students tell their own stories and respond to others in the form of analysis, reflection, discussion, and creative writing. Themes of self-discovery, social justice, and the human condition weave throughout the curriculum.
Candidates should have experience with student-centered teaching, together with confidence and experience teaching English at the high school level. A bachelor's degree is required and a master’s degree is preferred. The ideal candidate for this position is enthusiastic about educating girls and young women, and eager to contribute to curricular choices which will help advance the aforementioned mission of Lincoln’s English program.
Applicants should have exemplary pedagogical skills, a passion for teaching and learning from young people, and a love for working with adolescents in all facets of their school experience. In addition to teaching four (4) classes at various grade levels, 9-12, responsibilities include serving as an advisor and supporting students outside of the classroom.
Teachers at Lincoln maintain a reflective practice that involves collaboration and critical dialogue with colleagues and division leadership about their teaching; they embrace and uphold Lincoln's values of diversity, equity and inclusion; and they bring anti-racist practices into their classroom.
How to Apply:
Interested candidates should send a resume, statement of educational philosophy, and a list of 3-5 references to Julie Stafford, Human Resources Manager at [email protected]
