About the Opportunity:
The Global Experience Office (GEO) is a central office of global education at Northeastern University, committed to ensuring that every Northeastern student has an opportunity to engage in intellectually challenging and culturally enriching experiences throughout the world. To achieve this, GEO partners with Northeastern colleges and units to integrate meaningful global experiences into their curricula and to enhance their capacity through global mobility. Northeastern's signature programs, including Dialogues of Civilizations, Global Quest, The N.U.in Program, and Semester-In, are carefully designed to reflect the Northeastern University (NU) global mission, complement students' on-campus studies, deepen students' knowledge of the world and their chosen field of study, and help students develop intercultural and political sensitivity, utilize and strengthen foreign language skills, explore global career options, and grow as individuals. Through these programs, GEO facilitates global experiences for over 3,800 NU students and 200 additional foreign incoming students.

With supervision from a GEO Associate Director for Program Management and Student Success and a member of the Student Affairs team, the Program Liaison role is a year-round, full-time, benefits-eligible position is based in Boston, MA and requires the person in this role to live on-site with students for at least 3-4 months at one or more N.U.in locations. During the fall semester, this individual will live on-site and oversee the operations for one N.U.in Program location. During spring and summer semesters, this individual will be primarily based at Northeastern's campus in Boston, MA, with the potential of working at other GEO abroad or domestic locations as program management needs dictate.

Responsibilities:
Position responsibilities are shared between N.U.in/GEO and within Student Affairs. This individual will work non-traditional hours including some evenings and weekends, supporting student programming and attending to the safety and wellbeing of students.

Responsibilities during the spring semester and summer include:

Support enrollment management yield goals by presenting to prospective students and families

Recruit and assist with hiring new site staff

Assist with logistical planning of site staff training and student pre-departure orientation for various mobility programs

Serve on various N.U.in/GEO working groups/committees to improve future on-site operations (such as student conduct, emergency protocols, N.U.in Seminar, finance/programming, etc.)

Assist with recruitment, selection & training of student alumni ambassadors

Shadow Student Affairs departments and engage with campus-wide community building efforts to develop skills in programming, crisis management, conduct and conflict resolution, leadership skill building, equity, diversity, inclusion work, identity development and creating a sense of belonging, etc.

Transition & integration support for N.U.in students re/entering in the spring including providing tools to aid in transition and planning events and programs that connect students to each-other and the university

Develop programming, support, and resources for students to assist with problem solving, critical thinking, building resilience, etc.

Work with Student Affairs on managing crisis situations and further develop skills to confidently triage and communicate with families and emergency contacts as situations arise.

Provide consultations and trainings to colleagues on matters of student mobility, transition and Northeastern affinity

While on site with The N.U.in Program (dates vary based on location), individuals in this role will work non-traditional hours to support the safety and wellbeing of students.

Responsibilities during the fall semester include:

Act as the primary point of contact for student and staff safety and security during crises and manage escalated emergencies

Ensure and track quality and diversity of academic and social programs

Encourage student academic success, respond to student concerns and connect students to on-site academic, medical and mental health resources

Serve as a conduct hearing officer

Supervise, support, and evaluate a team of N.U.in Coordinators in all aspects of their professional development and needs

Serve as a liaison with staff and faculty from the host institution and GEO Program Management Staff through regular meetings and written reports

The Program Liaison will work collaboratively to support the safety and wellbeing of students and contribute to the development and overall success of the students and the program. Responsibilities may vary based on site placement, the needs of students, N.U.in/GEO, and Student Affairs.

Qualifications:
This highly demanding position requires a significant amount of patience, flexibility, assertiveness, diplomacy, self-initiative, as well as substantial experience living abroad and working in fast-paced and ambiguous environments. This position requires a unique and flexible individual prepared to navigate the personal and professional challenges of location changes, varied responsibilities and multiple reporting lines.

Master's Degree required in relevant field such as Higher Education, International Education or Student Development

Minimum 4 years of demonstrated student service experience or higher education experience in a residence life or student affairs capacity

Experience with supervision, leading teams, and managing diverse groups of staff

Knowledge or experience of Northeastern University preferred

Experience living, working or studying abroad.

Understanding of NAFSA: Association of International Educators' professional ethics and competencies

Experience working closely with high school or undergraduate students (in a counselor, residence life, student affairs, or related role)

Experience with crisis management, mediation, and conflict resolution

Flexibility and demonstrated ability to excel in fast-paced environments, navigate ambiguity, and take actions that satisfy diverse interests

Proven ability to coordinate and manage events for large groups with enthusiasm and attention to detail

Experience with budget reporting

Proven ability to work well under challenging conditions, demonstrate sound judgement, and take actions that satisfy diverse interest while achieving programmatic goals

Fluent in English

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain any required work authorization for the duration of appointment and work location assignments

Location/area expertise and local language proficiency preferred (if applicable)
