Job Description: The Program: The Ethnic Studies (ES) Program invites applications from scholars in Ethnic Studies and related social sciences fields for a full-time salaried adjunct position in Latinx Studies, to begin Fall 2021. The ES Program at Mills College is a vibrant hub of intellectual inquiry, critical pedagogy and social justice-oriented activity. Located within the Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department, the Ethnic Studies Program aims to produce graduates who have the confidence, skills and experience to become leaders and change agents, to think critically, and to engage capably, responsibly and ethically with diverse communities. The Position: We seek an engaged instructor in the field of Latinx Studies, with a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students. The successful candidate will: teach undergraduate courses in Latinx Studies; supervise undergraduate research by ES majors; serve as an academic advisor; and serve as faculty advisor to Latinx student organizations and events on campus. Teaching will include: two undergraduate courses in Latinx Studies, Research Methods with Communities of Color, Introduction to Ethnic Studies, and one course in the candidate's area of specialization. Mills College is a Hispanic Serving Institution. Applicants with expertise and experience in supporting and promoting success for Latinx students are strongly encouraged to apply. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some teaching may be done remotely. However, applicants need to be available for in-person teaching if that becomes possible in the fall or spring semesters. Additional Information: This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary is $60,000 per year, and includes a comprehensive benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, and 403(b) retirement plan. Faculty members also receive free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts. Tuition remission is also available after an introductory period. Voluntary benefits include: pet insurance, long-term care insurance, legal-assistance insurance, cellular provider discounts and computer hardware discounts. Adjunct compensation is governed by a collective bargaining agreement and increases with seniority at Mills College.
