Who We Are

Lawrence Academy is an independent, coeducational, boarding and day college preparatory school located in Groton Massachusetts. They provide high school students a comprehensive educational experience in a diverse, inclusive, campus-based setting. Founded in 1792, their mission and firm belief is that “Lawrence Academy recognizes you for who you are and inspires you to take responsibility for who you want to become,” empowering students to take action for “the greater good.” As one of the oldest boarding schools in the United States, LA provides a rigorous college preparatory academic curriculum; award winning arts programs in visual arts, theatre, music, and dance; championship athletics as members of the Independent School League (ISL) and New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC); a two-week experiential learning program called Winterim and a vast array of other extracurricular clubs, activities and community service opportunities. Located in New England, about forty minutes from Boston and ninety minutes from Hartford, Lawrence Academy teaches students from all over the world at a 5 to 1 student-to-faculty ratio. The learning environment encourages discovery inside the classroom, at home, and abroad. The school motto is "Omnibus Lucet": which in Latin means, "The light shines for all."

Job Responsibilities

The Dean of Enrollment and Admissions will lead a collaborative, coordinated, strategic all-school effort to convey Lawrence Academy’s unique value to the marketplace in order to attract, enroll, and retain a mission-appropriate, diverse and inclusive student community. This includes:

• Developing and implementing enrollment and admission plans with clearly stated goals and objectives to achieve the desired enrollment composition and net-tuition revenue.
• Serving as a thought partner for, and collaborator with, a dynamic, fast-paced, and creative administrative team.
• Providing leadership in admission, marketing, and recruitment and directing the process of attracting, selecting and enrolling students while sustaining and enhancing the School’s position in the marketplace.
• Maintaining statistical and trend data related to admissions and enrollment.
• Presenting statistical and trend information to the school leadership team, the Board of Trustees, and the faculty.
• Understanding and informing the School community about research and trends in admissions that ensures that changes and challenges are anticipated, understood, and addressed.
• Working in partnership with the Assistant Head of School for Institutional Strategy and Advancement and his marketing and communications staff to develop a strategic recruitment and communication plan, identifying best practices to reach targeted, mission-appropriate audiences.
• Working closely with the Director of Athletics to cultivate interest-based markets that will strengthen LA’s position in the ISL.
• Managing all facets of the admissions and financial aid process.
• Supervising and mentoring an admission staff of eight in a manner which will maximize their individual talents and encourage their professional growth.
• Traveling domestically and internationally as needed in support of enrollment and admissions efforts.
• Formulating application, admissions and enrollment policies that are strategic and forward thinking.
• Actively participating in and leading local and national professional development and networking opportunities.
• Fostering high ethical standards, integrity, and respect for students, colleagues, alumni/ae, and parents throughout the admissions process and beyond.
• Living on campus and participating in the responsibilities of the senior administrative team and other school activities as time and the travel schedule reasonably allow.
