Start Date: July 1, 2021 

Maclay School seeks a Lower School Academic Dean for prek3-5th grade. The Academic Dean is a member of the Lower School’s Administrative team who works directly with the LS division head, faculty, parents, and students. In conjunction with Lower School faculty, a primary responsibility of the Academic Dean is to monitor the progress and achievement of all Lower School students – at an individual level, grade level, and division level. 

Individual, Student-Centered Responsibilities 

• Collect and maintain data and documentation on all students of concern, including both students who are being served through the Center for Academic Excellence and those who are not. 
• Work as the liaison/intermediary between the Center for Academic Excellence and the classroom teachers to ensure all students’ needs are being met with best practice and continuous communication. 
• Attend all parent/teacher conferences where behavioral, academic, or emotional concerns are discussed. 
• Work with students experiencing a variety of difficulties. 
• Meet with parents when needed to discuss any issues or concerns. 
• Provide assistance to teachers or grade levels in finding curriculum resources or programs related to student support. 
• Lead all PreK-5 grade level/team meetings related to instructional support to meet student needs. 
• Work with all new families to ensure a smooth transition. (summer) 
• Monitor any students of concern/provisional contract students and all that entails. 

Grade/Division Student Centered Responsibilities 

• Monitor grade portals for grades 3-5 throughout each quarter and work to correct discrepancies. 
• Review interim and report card grades and comments each quarter in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. 
• Organize the administration of all standardized screenings/assessments. This includes registration for the test, creating schedules for administering the test and helping administer the test individually to the younger students. 
• Following completion, create reports and analyze data. Make recommendations as to a course of action where necessary. 
• Gather and disseminate information (e.g. grants, policies, professional development opportunities) relevant to student support. 
• Coordinate with Middle School and Upper School Dean to ensure alignment in curriculum and to facilitate student transition to Middle School. 
• Assist with implementation of curricular changes. 

Administrative Duties 

• Work with Division Director to create student and teacher schedules. (summer) 
• Assist in determining student placement for the upcoming school year. (summer) 
• Lead faculty in training and gradebook setup in August and monitor throughout the year. 
• Work closely with the admissions team to review application materials for prospective lower school students. 
• Participate in ongoing professional development related to job responsibilities and maintaining expertise in the field. 
• Support Maclay School community awareness initiatives and promote an open-door policy to entertain questions and concerns. 
• Be available to represent the Lower School Division in the absence of the Lower School Head.
