Drake University is seeking an exceptional professional to serve as the Executive Director, Human Resources. The Executive Director is responsible for the human resources function, including recruitment and retention strategies, management of compensation, benefits, and retirement systems, performance evaluations, employee relations, and staff professional development. The Executive Director serves as an internal consultant to senior leadership and managers. Reporting to the Chief Administration Officer, this position is part of a results orientated leadership team within Administration. This position serves as a trusted advisor to campus leaders and is positioned to contribute to significant new programs and initiatives that will have a lasting impact on the University and its employees.

Leads the Human Resources department, promoting integrity, high quality customer service, continuous process improvement and collaborative problem-solving. Promotes and advances HR services, initiatives and policies.
Serves as internal consultant to senior leadership and managers. Assist and coach managers to maximize the utilization of their human resources. Performs employee relations functions, including conducting complaint investigations, responding to labor relations matters, counseling managers and employees and mediating workplace issues and concerns.
Directly affect institutional excellence by fostering individual commitment to building a diverse, equitable and inclusive community. Lead and promote university equity and inclusion initiatives and programs within areas of responsibility.
Leads and oversees compensation and benefits planning for the University. Oversees relationships with third party consultants and attorneys to ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all benefits and compensation programs. Advocates for and leads process improvement initiatives in the administration of compensation and benefits.
Responsible for the development of effective performance management and professional development programs. Assesses the professional development needs of the campus and delivers responsive programming.
Oversee and lead employee engagement programs, including recognition, wellness, social, and other programming aimed at strengthening workplace culture. Collaborate with the All Staff Council to ensure programs and policies are responsive to employee needs and concerns.
Create, execute, and evaluate strategic, innovative and engaging HR communications and materials. Communicate through a variety of mediums about the plans, successes and programs of the HR Department. Periodically present to senior leadership and the Board of Trustees.
Manage the Human Resources department budget. Collaborate in the development of annual compensation budgets for the University.
