Visual Art Teacher

Pingree is currently seeking applicants for a full-time Visual Art Teacher in the Art Department beginning in the 2021-2022 school year. We are looking for imaginative and versatile candidates who possess a passion for and broad experience in the field of studio art as well as a desire to work collaboratively in a dynamic and collegial department of artist-teachers. The teaching responsibilities of the position will include courses in drawing and painting, and working with the visual arts faculty in teaching a rotation of a full-credit foundational 9th grade arts survey course. Experience in another area such as printmaking, sculpture, or mixed media would be an additional strength. Candidates should be motivated to work with the Art Department faculty in furthering enthusiasm for the visual arts in a school community with a thriving and evolving arts program. 

In addition to classroom teaching, this person will also serve as director of the Bertolon Art Gallery which exhibits artwork from student, faculty, and staff artists as well as the work of emerging and established artists from outside the school community. This position may also include assisting students in developing college portfolios, an additional season of coaching or another activity as a part of our co-curricular program, as well as serving as an advisor.  

We seek candidates who are passionate about and have experience with exploring social justice through the arts, and who have a demonstrated commitment to creating equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist spaces in their teaching. We are interested in candidates who are familiar with current trends in the art world and those with a desire to connect to and collaborate with other disciplines inside and outside the arts. The successful candidate will be deeply invested in a student-centered and process-intensive approach to art pedagogy, will have enthusiasm and appreciation for working with adolescents of a wide range of art experience, and will desire to take imaginative risks and to innovate in their teaching.
