Baker Demonstration School, an independent progressive PK-8 school on Chicago’s North Shore, is seeking a Dean of Student Engagement to support 4th - 8th grade students in their personal and social-emotional growth starting July 1, 2021.The Dean of Student Engagement is a visible presence throughout the school providing support and buildingrelationships with students, faculty and families. The Dean is responsible for student activities, leadershipdevelopment and student discipline and works collaboratively with faculty, team leaders, and the Student Servicesand leadership teams on issues related to student support and wellness. Balancing work as student advocate withresponsibility for managing student conduct, the Dean of Student Engagement plays a key role in leading andsupporting a healthy, inclusive school climate and culture. This 11 month position includes teaching 1-2 classes or electives in the candidate’s area of expertise and advising 1-2 clubs.

Actively engage, listen to, and advocate for student voices and concerns
Promote high standards and consistent expectations for student leadership, personal growth, and community responsibility
Lead the student disciplinary process; dealing with the violation of school rules in a timely and thoroughmanner to ensure fair, consistent disciplinary practices that align with the school’s mission and guidingprinciples
Work closely with the Student Services team, Team Leaders, and Leadership Team to support studenthealth, safety, and well-being
Work closely with the faculty to coordinate student co- and extra-curriculars
Lead and support equity, inclusivity and anti-racism work, collaborating with teams to incorporate thiswork in all aspects of student life
Coordinate and schedule special programs and events for students. Participate in grade-level experientialtrips
Lead revisions and updates on all student aspects of the Community Handbook
Represent the 4th - 8th grade at school community events
Coordinate and plan out a slate of dynamic weekend activities over the course of the school year
Keep the Head of School informed regarding student issues and campus life
Demonstrated experience working with upper elementary and middle school students as a teacher, coach, and/or leader
Demonstrated problem-solving, conflict resolution, and crisis management skills
Experienced leader in centering equity, inclusivity and cultural competency and supportinginitiatives that align with the school’s mission and guiding principles
Skill and commitment to contribute positively to the school community and to develop strong relationships with students, teachers, colleagues and families
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
