The Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences at Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) in Joplin, Missouri seeks applicants for a Instructor of Chemistry position.
Primary responsibilities will be: Teach courses in Chemistry and related courses within prescribed curriculum, in person and possibly in online formats. Typical courses taught are General Chemistry, Allied Health Chemistry and related topics. Prepares and delivers lectures, presentations and other educational resources to students (teaches). Compiles, administers, and grades examinations, lab assignments, lab reports, quizzes and other modes of assessment as prescribed by the department or MSSU. Serves as academic advisor to majors within the department. Holds meetings with advisees to assist with class scheduling, graduation and career planning. Given the opportunity, may serve on various on-campus committees at the departmental, school or university level. Assist with ordering, and overseeing laboratory preparation and the Chemistry Stockroom, including ensuring that all reagents are available in sufficient quantities for all 100-level chemistry labs and notifies the department chair, in advance, when reagent quantities are low and need to be ordered. Demonstrate the proper and safe way to prepare reagents for all of that week's 100-level chemistry labs such as: proper personal protective equipment for preparing reagents, proper labeling of reagents, proper disposal of reagents, proper clean up and storage of reagents. Ensures the freshman chemistry lab and stockroom are safe and in compliance with all regulations and best chemical hygiene practices. Communicates openly with faculty and staff about lab schedules and lab needs. Performs other duties as assigned.
