Housing & Residential Life: The Office of Housing & Residential Life is committed to providing a residential experience of the highest quality for each of our residents. Through partnerships with university faculty and staff, we foster students' personal growth, critical thinking, intellectual engagement, and social responsibility that is designed to educate, challenge and develop our students. The Housing & Residential Life program includes 8 cooperative houses, graduate and professional student housing, 11 Program Houses that have a focused identity and/or themed living environments, a focused First Year Residential Experience on North Campus, and a unique upper-class and transfer student experience in South Campus. In addition, there is significant faculty engagement in the residential communities, with faculty-in-residence living in the first-year communities and over 110 faculty and community members spread throughout all of the residential communities. Position Impact: The Area Coordinator (AC) is a 12- month, live in position that works with their own Undergraduate community with 8-20 resident advisors (RAs) by providing leadership, community and program development, administrative management, student conduct management, and support for a population ranging from approximately 300-600 students as well as oversees the daily operations of 2-9 residential communities and their respective Residence Hall Directors (RHD's) accommodating an additional 800-1500 total Undergraduate students. The AC is expected to ensure a safe, inclusive, purposeful living and learning environment that supports student involvement and active citizenship in a larger community. This AC is a new position that brings together housing operations and program development of the First-Year Residential Experience as part of Cornell's North Campus Residential Expansion (NCRE) project and will evolve over the course of the project. The AC will play a critical role in preparing for the opening of the NCRE buildings at various sites by working closely with NCRE planners, Facilities, Building Care, Dining, Service Centers, IT, and those academic units sharing space in the residence halls. Simultaneously, the Area Coordinator will be directly responsible for the oversight of one residential community and the supervision of additional RHD's as each hall begins to open. In order to provide consistent support to students in their most formative years, the AC will be involved in the development of a comprehensive residential experience for First-Year students that will establish a close working relationship with the Faculty-in- Residence (FIRs) plus Faculty Fellows to ultimately cultivate the ideal First-Year Residential Experience. Position includes a furnished apartment, laundry in unit, partner policy, pet policy, partial meal plan to facilitate student engagement, and many University benefits. Success Factors: A successful Area Coordinator must demonstrate project management skills as well as supervision, training, and development of both professional and paraprofessional staff. This position must also demonstrate strong innovative programming development skills that show an understanding of student issues and trends to proactively respond to a wide array of issues or emerging student needs. Additionally, this role should have a particular enthusiasm for leading an area and team dedicated to First-Year students and have the ability to work with a diverse & multicultural student population. This role should be highly collaborative and flexible but also have the skills needed take initiative, execute directives and work independently. This role should demonstrate exceptional skills in First-Year student engagement, individual support, supervision, and leadership development to ensure a safe and inclusive environment as well as be able to effectively balance administrative workload with student interaction.
