![]() ADMIN OFCR 4 (Chief Administrative Officer - CAO) Department Description The Vice Chancellor's Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (VCDEI) plans, designs, leads and facilitates institutional equity, diversity and inclusion change actions, initiatives and communications in collaboration with campus partners. It leads and facilitates the ongoing implementation and accountability of the university's strategic vision for diversity and inclusion, consulting and collaborating with partners and stakeholder groups. The Office of Administration and Research within VCDEI supports these initiatives through leading and directing the administrative, data collection, data analysis, and data dissemination, as well as the communication, human resources, and research functions of the portfolio. Job Summary The Chief Administrative Officer will lead, manage, and direct the full range of the organization's human resources and financial activities for the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Actively collaborate with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance, Operation, and Administration (VC-FOA), Davis and Sacramento CAO colleagues; and lead across campus efforts on human resources and financial matters. The CAO will organize, plan, and direct analyses involving financial resources, staffing, space administration, policy and procedure development, and program planning and implementation. The individual will serve as an advisor on key issues and processes. The position will be responsible for oversight of administrative policies and procedures; business practices (e.g. purchasing, accounts receivable, etc.); and human resource management. In the case of HR management, the Chief Administrative Officer will oversee the implementation of critical HR initiatives, serving as an advisor to supervisors and high-level managers and work with the Office of the VC-FOA and other Davis and Sacramento CAOs. The incumbent will have a solid reporting line to the COS and a dotted line to the VC-DEI. POSITION INFORMATION PHYSICAL DEMANDS Sit for extended periods of time at a computer. WORK ENVIRONMENT Occasionally work long hours, depending on the requirements of this position, including some evening/weekend/holiday work and travel days. Some overnight travel required. Position is a mandatory reporter for known or suspected child abuse and requires that a statement acknowledging the requirement to report child abuse be signed. Leadership skills to analyze and evaluate information and situations; synthesize ideas and integrate information; and to present viable, compliant solutions. Interpersonal communications skills to work collaboratively within a culturally diverse workforce and constituents from varying backgrounds and perspectives. Advanced interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling. Management experience within a complex organization and project management of high-impact projects. Knowledge of best practices in administration, finance and accounting, and human resources. Experience managing financial and budgetary needs of a complex organization. Experience with the administrative operations of a nonprofit or educational agency, including accounting/finance, human resources, and space utilization. Preferred: Familiarity with UC/UC Davis financial and HR systems and procedures (DaFIS, PPS, PPS DS, Banner experience). Experience with grant funding.
