Under the direction of a supervisor, the Administrative Assistant will provide a variety of administrative functions for one professor and her research team. Provide support in the areas of teaching, conferences and professional organizations. Responsible for compiling and processing all materials for grant, contract and fellowship submissions to private, federal and international agencies. Initiate letters and correspondence, word-process and proofread manuscript reviews, recommend data, etc.; schedule meetings; liaison with the laboratory for animal protocol approvals and biohazard safety. Act as liaison with departmental faculty, staff and students, university administration, external and foreign agencies, and professional associations.
Extensive general office administrative experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of the operation of personal computers.
Interpersonal and communication skills: skill in exercising tact, diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with multinational scientific faculty, fellows, staff, technicians and administrators.
Skill in organizing/prioritizing workload to meet daily production schedule.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
Skill in following and interpreting oral and written instructions.
Excellent English grammar, spelling and punctuation skills; knowledge of standard formats.
Knowledge of biological and medical terminology and symbols.
