Staff Counselor- Multicultural Specialist Serving BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ Students Student Counseling Services, Twin Cities Campus
Position Information Student Counseling Services (SCS) is seeking a counselor to provide individual and group counseling to students and outreach and programming to the University community, including consultation to staff and faculty regarding student mental health and academic issues, with a focus on BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ students. This position will work closely with the Diversity Liaison Counselor, SCS Outreach team, and other SCS staff to build and sustain campus liaison relationships. This position reports to the Director of SCS. This is a full-time, 100%, 12-month appointment with benefits.
Primary Job Responsibilities: â— Provide personal counseling services via time-limited individual and group modalities that supports emotional, academic, and career development of students, with particular focus on students holding one or more of these identities: Black/African American, Indigenous/First Nations, Latinx, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Multi-racial and other students of color, international students, LGBTQIA+ students. â— Provide intake and crisis intervention services â— Provide assessment and diagnostic services related to developing effective treatment plans and making appropriate referrals of student clients â— Serve as an advocate and as a liaison in the referral of students to on- and off-campus resources. â— Provide consultation services for students, faculty, parents and staff related to psychological issues. â— Conduct and collaborate on psycho-educational workshops and preventive outreach for students, faculty and staff, particularly focused on the mental health needs of historically marginalized student groups. â— Engage in SCS committee and other team work related to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives â— Other duties as assigned. Depending upon qualifications and interest, this may include providing supervision for counseling trainees This is a full-time, 100%, 12-month psotion, with benefits. Salary range: $60,000 - $70,000 We seek candidates with evidence of expertise, commitment, and sustained engagement in working with Multiracial/BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ students towards their personal development, well-being, and academic success, through culturally responsive individual, group and community interventions. Candidates will have the skills and experience in therapy, consultation and outreach to provide culturally responsive care and will collaborate with campus and community partners to engage in meaningful psycho-educational outreach to promote student success and well-being.
This position requires strong, generalist clinical skills to assess and intervene with a wide range of presenting student concerns within a time-limited treatment model. This position conducts initial assessments, group and individual counseling, crisis intervention, risk assessment, consultation and referrals. Service provision includes face-to-face and tele-mental health services to students regarding problems relating to stress, developmental issues, career, academics, interpersonal concerns, trauma and other mental health concerns. Our office is currently providing exclusively tele-mental health services, and these are expected to continue as the primary mode of service delivery through at least the remainder of spring semester. Candidates should also have interest in supporting the development and growth of clinicians-in-training in the area of culturally responsive interventions.
