Chair of History Department Hackley School Job Description
Summary of Responsibilities
The Chair of History is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Hackley’s history curriculum and serves as a conduit for and champion of the study and teaching of history for the Hackley community. The Chair of History supervises a staff of 11 full-time history teachers who are responsible for history instruction in grades 5-12. In addition, the Chair teaches three classes. He or she sits on the school’s Academic Committee, collaborates actively with the Division Directors of the Middle and Upper School, and reports to the Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs.
Reporting Structure The Chair of History reports to the Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs.

Hackley is a nonsectarian coeducational K-12 independent school located in Tarrytown, NY, 20 miles north of New York City on the Hudson River. Founded as a boarding school in 1899, Hackley enrolls around 840 students in grades Kindergarten through Grade 12, including approximately 30 five-day boarding students in Grades 9 -12. With over 40% of our faculty residing in school housing, Hackley combines the community cohesion of a boarding school with the stimulation of a day school, all in close proximity to one of the great cities of the world. |
