School Counselor

SUMMARY 

The School Counselor will report to the Assistant Head of School for Enrollment Management and Student Success and serve as a key member of the Student Success Team (SST). The Counselor is responsible for designing and delivering social-emotional learning through classroom lessons, school-wide initiatives, group and individual counseling, educator consultation and training, and parent workshops. The Counselor will also meet with students in individual and small group settings, and work with the Learning Center faculty to support students.  

The successful candidate must enjoy working with teenagers and have experience in a school setting.

Clinical Support 

• Provides direct 1:1 counseling support to students in an ongoing and drop-in basis 
• Runs ongoing groups for students on issues related to social-emotional and mental health (i.e., eating, friendship, anxiety, etc.) 
• In cases of acute mental health crises, the counselor will serve as the main liaison among students, parents, teachers, and outside clinicians  
• Provides consultation to teachers and other school personnel regarding student needs and supports 

Programming 

• Develops and implements schoolwide programming on topics related to social-emotional and mental health 
• Creates student advisory curriculum related to social-emotional wellbeing, drugs, alcohol, body image, sexual education, anxiety, wellness, and other relevant topics 
• Provides professional development to student advisors, teachers, and other staff in relevant topics of mental health and wellbeing 

• May teach a course in a topic related to social-emotional health and wellbeing 

Administrative 

• Clearly communicates in writing and in oral presentation to all stakeholders 
• Supports Learning Center teachers and admissions staff on interpreting and understanding neuro-psychology evaluations 

• Keep careful clinical notes and records of all student cases 
• Collects, maintains, and presents data when applicable
