Dean of Grades 7/8 and English/Language Arts Teacher
Rye Country Day School is seeking a Grades 7 and 8 Dean and English/Language Arts Teacher beginning August 2021. Rye Country Day School is a coeducational, PreK-12, college preparatory school located in Westchester County, New York dedicated to providing students with an excellent education using both traditional and innovative approaches. Specific responsibilities of the position include:
Coordinate the grade level(s) – communication with/about faculty, students, parents; supervise day-to-day academic matters; support students, faculty, and parents; run grade-level meetings; prepare special schedules for the grade level(s) – special days, ERBs, delayed openings, etc.
Teach three (3) English/Language Arts classes (grades 7 and 8)
Serve on the Child Study Team
Develop plans for advisor periods, assist advisors with academic counseling, and coordinate advisor groups
Assist with during and after school chaperoning duties
Serve on the Admissions Committee
Coordinate special task forces as designated by the Principal
Coordinate grade level field trips
Help coordinate Middle School Meeting
Develop faculty duty rotations
Assist with proofreading comments
Handle minor student discipline
Guide faculty in helping students prepare for conferences
Prepare and communicate daily announcements
Assist with course selection process for 8th graders
Manage student clubs
Masters degree in English, Humanities, or Education
3-5 years of experience teaching English/Language Arts in a middle school setting
Genuine excitement for working with middle schoolers
Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills
Commitment to professional development and personal growth
