Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School is excitedly seeking an enthusiastic educator for this new position in support of its thriving residential program. The Dean of Residential and Student Life is someone committed to making an affirming impact on the lives of adolescents and is enthusiastic about creating a robust residential life experience that supports the physical and social-emotional wellbeing of students and is inclusive and fun. Serving on the Upper School Leadership Team and reporting directly to the Head of Upper School, the Dean of Residential and Student Life works in close coordination with the Dean of Students and two Head House Advisers to ensure consistency and coordination of residential student programs. Collaboration with the Dean of Students is vital to maintain a consistent and pervasive tone of courtesy, respect, and inclusiveness for our globally diverse student body. Commitment to setting a positive tone and treating students as individuals within the context of a broader community are critical components of all positions at Cranbrook. Experience leading in a boarding community is expected. The Dean of Residential and Student Life resides on campus, and alternates campuses for dorm duty every other week, and once every five weekends.
Cranbrook is a PK-12 school with a vibrant boarding component in grades 9-12, allowing the school to provide teachers with the opportunity to live and work on our architecturally famous 319-acre campus. Faculty engage students and support their development as members of a shared community. Eagerness to live among students and to engage them in the evenings and on the weekends as a part of an exciting residential program is considered significantly beneficial.
The campus also hosts a Graduate Academy of Art, a Science Museum, and an Art Museum, which together comprise the Cranbrook Educational Community.? This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree, with a Master’s Degree preferred, preferably in a field related to adolescent support or counseling. Enthusiasm for working with adolescents and excellent communication skills are expected for all educators in the Upper School. Experience leading in a boarding community is also expected.
