The Foote School is seeking a Drama Teacher beginning in September 2021. The Foote School is an independent K-9 co-ed day school in New Haven, Connecticut. We aim to endow students with timeless values while providing the thoughtful experiences that will prepare them to learn, lead, and grow in the 21st century; the theater program has a key place in this experience.
The successful candidate will be a nurturing flexible person with a strong background in theatre instruction and an understanding of the developmental needs of children. He or she should be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and peers as well as be able to employ a variety of instructional techniques to engage young learners. The successful candidate will have a commitment to our school’s mission, to working collaboratively with others, and to upholding the values of the school community.

Coordinate the K - 9 curriculum
Direct shows and collaborate with the Music Department, as needed
Serve as an academic advisor in the Middle School
Participate in meetings, field trips, special activities, and rotational duties
Regularly write reports that evaluate student performance and demonstrate knowledge of students’ experiences
Bachelor’s degree in Theatre/Performing Arts or similar subject is required; master’s degree or higher is preferred
3 - 5 years of experience teaching performing arts at the Lower, Middle, and Upper School levels
Effective oral, written, and organizational skills
Ability to support the extra-curricular life of the school
Training in best practices as it relates to teaching drama
An appreciation for independent school education
A willingness to collaborate with others and to contribute to the school community
A commitment to professional growth and innovative thinking
A clear interest in being part of a community that seeks to challenge prejudice and is committed to diversity and inclusion
Strong personal and interpersonal skills
